Mildred “Kaye” (Andersen) Smith, 63, of Austin, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Our House Assisted Living.
Mildred Kaye Smith was born on Oct. 12, 1946, in Austin. She was the daughter of Theodore and M. Jerry (Whittmore) Andersen. Throughout the years, Kaye attended First Methodist Church, Lansing Methodist Church, and later was immersed in Christ at Austin Church of Christ.
She was a 1964 graduate of Austin High School.
On Oct. 17, 1964, Kaye was united in marriage to Ronald H. Smith at The Fellowship Methodist Church. This marriage was blessed with three children.
Kaye held employment with R&K Grocery in Lansing, Combined Insurance Company, and Hormel until she opened her own Quality Daycare Center. Later she went on to work at St. Mark’s Nursing Home and waitressed at The Riviera Supper Club.
Kaye loved cooking, gardening, crocheting, bowling, playing Yahtzee, making trips to the casino and shopping. Kaye especially cherished spending time with her seven grandchildren.
Kaye passed away peacefully at Our House Assisted Living on July 12, 2010, after struggling with various health problems for the past 10 years. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Kaye is survived by her children, Raymie (Sarah) Smith of Austin, Tim (Val) Smith of Concord, Kayla (Bill) Neisen of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Tannis Smith, Treyvis Smith, Grace Smith, Ada Smith, Carter Neisen and Ella Neisen; her brother, William Andersen of Wickenburg, Ariz.; her sister, Tami Polsdofer; and her husband, Duane of Forest City, Iowa; a special friend, Bill Littlepage of Lansing; and many nephews and other special relatives and friends.
Kaye was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and a nephew.
Kaye will be greatly missed by her family and friends and will always be remembered for her generous and caring nature.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, Aug. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Austin Church of Christ,103 Second St. SW.
