Kemma Johnson, formerly of Austin, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at St. Johns Care Center in Albert Lea.
Kemma Frances Jerdet was born in Mower County, Minn., to Clarence and Gena (Miller) Jerdet. Kemma was raised on a farm near Corning and graduated from Austin High School. Kemma married Ingmund Johnson and together raised a family in Austin and were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Kemma worked for Hormel, St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Milwaukee-Soo Line Railroad. She was talented and resourceful. She sang with the birds while doing daily tasks of creating meals, special events for everyone around her. Her table was full of the best foods and welcomed neighbors and family. She was strong and independent. She could cook, sew, write, teach and love. She loved animals and writing. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In fact, during the last five days the little ones are what stimulated her the most. She loved the simple predictability of Austin as well as the symphony and opportunities of Minneapolis. We will remember the woman with a clear mind, giving heart, talented hands and open soul.
Surviving are three children, Nola Johnson, of Gilbert, Ariz., Lynn (Deb) Johnson, of Austin, Kris Johnson, of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Ben Johnson, Tiffany (Jay) Doppelhammer, Thor (Shelly) Bergland, Jed (Ayako) Bergland; great-grandchildren, Kemma, Eric, Nicola, Breeze, Grace, Odin, London.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Randi Genelia Swancutt; father, Clarence Jerdet; step-father, Eric Swancutt; brothers, Ronald Jerdet, Kenneth Jerdet, Loran Jerdet, Joel Jerdet.
