It was closer than the first time Austin Post 91 played Kasson, but the end result was the same.

While Austin lost to Kasson 15-2 in five innings June 22, it fell to the Canes 11-5 in Marcusen Park Tuesday.

“It wasn’t too bad and we’ll use this game as a stepping stone. Kasson’s a good team and they hit the ball well,” Austin Post 91 manager Bob Stratton said.

Post 91 (4-12 overall) fell behind 4-1 in the second and Kasson’s James Peterson drilled a two-out, three-run double to make it 10-1 in the top of the third.

From that point, Austin battled back. Brady Klingfus knocked in two runs with a single to deep right field in the third, Joey Swatfager doubled a run in the fourth and Klingfus knocked home a run in the sixth with a two-out single.

Post 91 could’ve been a lot closer, but it stranded 12 runners on base in the loss.

“That’s been the sign of our team this year, not getting timely hits,” Stratton said.

Klingfus and Preston Higbe were both robbed of doubles by the first-base line during the game as they fell on the way to first had to settle for singles.

Kasson’s James Peterson had to leave the game after hurting his ankle while making the turn from first to second.

Kasson’s Chris Paradise stole home with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.
