Brian Voigt has received the highest honor in junior college baseball and he’s also picked his college to play at next spring.

Voigt, a 2008 Southland grad who played for the Blue Devils the past two springs, has signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. and he was selected to the NJCAA All-American First Team, according to Riverland Community College head coach Scott Koenigs.

Voigt will also get some solid baseball in this summer as he will play for a collegiate league in Kansas.

Voigt will play shortstop and pitcher for Dodge City, which plays in the Jayhawk League that features players from Divison I Big 12 schools and other colleges.

Voigt was 7-3 with four saves on the mound with an ERA of 1.97 for RCC this past spring. He struck out 56 in 59.1 innings, while allowing 56 hits and 20 walks.

Voigt, who also played shortstop, hit an RCC-record 16 homers, while hitting .470 with 17 doubles, 7 triples, 59 RBIs, and 54 runs.

Voigt will receive a partial scholarship at Augustana.

Voigt, who also was All-MCAC, All-State, and All-Region, is just the second Blue Devil to be a first team All-American. Kyle Starkey received that honor last season.

Koenigs was honored as MCAC, Region 13 and District E baseball coach of the year.

RCC’s Kyle Young was All-State and All-MCAC while Shawn Pape was All-MCAC.
