Three area athletes advance to state track and field meet

Three area athletes advanced to the Class ‘A’ state track and field at the Section 1A meet Thursday in Triton.

Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Southland freshman Danielle Hanson clinched a return trip to state when she finished first in the 300-meter hurdles. She was a second and a half faster than the nearest finisher.

Hayfield’s Hunter Anderson beat the field by almost 10 feet when he took first place in the discus to get to state.

On Wednesday, Jeff Schlichter of GMLOS won the triple jump to advance to state.

The Class ‘A’ state track and field meet will be held June 11 and June 12 at Hamline University.

200-meter dash: Betsy Oswald (GMLOS) (sixth, 27.44)

300-meter hurdles: Danielle Hanson (GMLOS) (first, 46.82)

1600-meter run: McKenzie Kirtz (GMLOS) (sixth, 5:35.49)

Triple jump: Brooke Kinney (GMLOS) (ninth, 32-11.50)

Long jump: Danielle Hanson (GMLOS) (sixth, 15-2)
