Neil Robert Johnson, 82, of Sargeant, Minn., died June 9, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center in Austin.
Neil Robert Johnson was born on Sept. 11, 1927, the son of Glenn and Rena (Heikes) Johnson in Austin. Neil graduated from Austin High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Neil was united in marriage to Lillian Oldenkamp on March 19, 1966, in Brownsdale. The couple farmed in the Sargeant area for many years and raised Pedigree Cattle. Neil was a member of the Hayfield American Legion, served as clerk for the Waltham Township Board for more than 20 years, and served on the board of directors for the Minnesota Regular Baptist Camp at Bass Lake, Minn. Neil enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and traveling to national parks.
Neil is survived by his wife, Lillian Johnson of Sargeant, Minn.; three children, Marlene (Robert) Heinz of LaSalle, Ill., Wesley Johnson of Sargeant, Minn., Linda (Arlie) Brandmeyer of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Bryce Johnson of Sargeant, Minn., Sydney and Aaron Brandmeyer of Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Ellen Johnson and Mildred Johnson, both of Brownsdale, Minn.; two brothers, Wayne Johnson and Lowell Johnson, both of Waltham, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, 206 East Main St., Brownsdale, Minn. with the Rev. Kraig Elliott officiating. Interment will be in Waltham Township Cemetery in rural Waltham with military honors by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post #330. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
The family prefers memorials to the Minnesota Regular Baptist Camp.
