A 59-year-old man who threatened a woman with a knife while being kicked out of an area bar was sentenced Friday to two-years probation with a jail term hanging over his head.

Tommie Earl Conner would serve 365 days in jail if he violates the terms of his probation, which include no alcohol use and no entering of bars. Conner will also pay more than $300 in fines for the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, Conner was becoming belligerently drunk at the Hiawatha Bar on 10th Street Northeast on the evening of Feb. 17. The bartender told Conner to leave, and several patrons assisted in removing him from the bar at around 10 p.m.

On his way out the door, Conner allegedly pulled a three-inch folding knife on a 50-year-old female and threatened to kill her, according to the bartender and another witness.

Police were called and arrested Conner at gunpoint at the nearby Bobee Jo’s Bar, the complaint states. When he arrived at jail, Conner received a preliminary breath test and blew a 0.127, which is over the legal limit.

A bag of marijuana found in Conner’s back pocket was confiscated before he was put into a cell.
