Clifton Vick

Clifton Ellsworth Vick, age 84 of Austin, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.  He was born Dec. 5, 1925, to Gilbert and Emma (Traaen) Vick in Spring Grove, Minn., where he attended high school. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in November of 1944, Clifton was stationed in Japan and honorably discharged from the medical supply department in 1946. He married Velma Beckel on Sept. 30, 1950, at Church of Christ in Austin. He began working for Geo. A. Hormel & Company in January of 1951 and retired in 1985. As members of Grace Lutheran Church, Clifton and Velma were active volunteers. Also a member of the Eagles and Austin Senior Center, Clifton attended Austin High School basketball, baseball and football games. He loved his family and was a good fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Besides playing Whist, Cribbage and horseshoes, he won several bowling trophies. Clifton enjoyed taking care of home ownership, especially his manicured lawn.
Survivors include his wife, Velma of Austin; son Stephen (Kathy) Vick of Garner, Iowa; daughter, Kathy (Frank) Hale of Garland, Texas; three grandchildren, Daniel Hale, Matthew Vick and Amy (Paul) Miller; one great grandchild, Aubrey Miller; two sisters, Norma Dahl of Canton, Minnesota and Lavaughn Blagsvedt of Rushford, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Jeffrey Forbes officiating.  Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, from 4to 7 p.m., Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service.  Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com
