Brent Mair, a 1985 Austin High School School graduate, was promoted to U.S. Army major on April 30.

The son of Glenn and Barbara Mair of Austin has been in the Army for 17 years and is currently stationed in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., as Munson Army Hospital Operating Room head nurse.

Mair has been deployed to Iraq and Kosovo and stationed in the United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Natick, Mass., Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Heidelberg ArmyHospital, Heidelberg, Germany and Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

At the ceremony, Mair gave an oath to serve the country as major and was “pinned.”

His mother and father pinned his rank on his right shoulder, while his wife, Catherine (Kubista) Mair, originally of Blooming Prairie, pinned his left shoulder. His four children pinned his hats and dress blues shirt.
