Bernetta Taylor

Bernetta Ivonne Taylor, 85, died peacefully at her home in Duluth Thursday morning, June 3, 2010.  She was born Feb. 19, 1925, the third child of Peter Theolin and Alma Regina Oletta (Evenson) Engen in Kenosha, Wis. 
Her siblings were brother, Edgar Hans, and a sister, Eleanor, who died shortly after birth. After Bernetta was born, the family moved to Decorah, Iowa where her sister, Arlene Phyllis, was born two years later. Four years after that Alphia Eleanor was born in Prosper, Minn. 
Bernetta attended country school near Dexter and Elkton high school. She married Robert Grunwaldt on June 28, 1941. To this union two children, Diane Alice and David Robert, were born. Bernetta and Robert were divorced, and later Bernetta married Curtis Amdahl on Aug. 19, 1951 and had a son, Gary Curtis.
Bernetta worked as a cosmetologist in Rochester for 43 years. After the divorce, she married Nyle Taylor on May 27, 1978. She was a longtime member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester and a member of ABWA. In 1996 she and her son, Gary, moved to Duluth. 
Bernetta enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved her gardening, raising both food and flowers.
Survivors include three children, Diane (Kenneth) Wood of Kenosha, Wis., David (Jane) Amdahl of Osakis, Gary Amdahl of Duluth; four grandchildren, Kimberly, Kevin, John and Christen; six great-grandchildren, Cara, Colton, Chase Kusilek; Katie, Jesse and Liliana Amdahl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
She was preceded in death by his parents; her husband; three sisters, Alphia, Arlene, Eleanor; one brother, Edgar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
