Kathryn (Bird) Carll, 88, formerly of Austin, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills.
Kathryn was born Aug. 22, 1921 at Staples, Minn. the daughter of R.I. and Elizabeth (Thomson) Bird, and moved to the Austin area as a child. She graduated from Austin High School in 1939. On March 13, 1940 she married Howard (Butch) Carll, her husband of 65 years.
Katie had been active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Unity Chapter #29, the Y Matrons and St. Olaf Lutheran Church. For many years she worked as the bookkeeper for the Trowbridge Super Market and later for the Red Owl Store in Austin.
Katie was preceded in death by her father, R. I. Bird; mother and step-father, Elizabeth (Toots) and Howard Thomson; her husband, Butch; grandson, David Kelzenberg; and great-granddaughter, Katie Jurek.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Norm Kelzenberg of Spring Lake Park, Minn.; Joy and Jay Dean of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Lynn and Bob Poferl of Maplewood, Minn.; Margo and Jon Geffen of Minneapolis, Minn.; Michael Dean of Minneapolis; great- grandchildren, Justin Jurek, John Poferl, Tim Poferl, Rachel Poferl, Zoe Geffen and Van Geffen; sister, Betty Husemoller of Owatonna, Minn.
 Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Unity Chapter #29 O.E.S., at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday. The Family prefers memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or to the Children Cancer Research Fund.
