Jan Varney

Jan Paul Varney, 63, formerly of Austin, died Saturday, May 22, in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Jan was born Aug. 29, 1946 in Austin, the son of Orville and Joyce (Braaten) Varney. He graduated from Austin High School in 1964. He married Linda Benn of Louiville, Ky. on Aug. 31, 1968.
Jan was the owner of Vintage Violins, Ltd, Palatine, Ill. He was the former principle violist for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Northbrook Symphony. He was the conductor of the Summer Serenade, Palatine, member of the Park Ridge and Northwest Symphonies and former member of the Evanston Symphony.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents, and one great-niece.
Survivors include his wife; children, Cheyney (Ed) Bieber of Brookfield, Wis. and Betsey Varney of Streamwood, Ill.; four grandchildren; sister, Penne (Richard) Lee of Austin; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
There will be a visitation on Friday at Ahlgrim & Sons, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg, IL, from 3 to 8 p.m. with funeral services conducted at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
