Tyler Nelson picked up the win on the mound and had a walk-off single as Hayfield’s baseball team beat Byron 3-2 in 11 innings in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday in Hayfield.
The Bears (6-11) took the first game 2-1.
Nelson pitched the final three innings of the win, which gave him a total of 10 innings pitched on the night, and he came through with a single in the 11th to score Tyler Krekling, who led off the frame with a hit.
“Tyler Nelson is our benchmark player, there’s no question,” Hayfield head coach Craig Selk said. “Both teams had solid pitching and defense and it was pretty big for us to get a win.”
Hayfield (4-15 overall) fell behind 2-0 in the opener and Nelson doubled in a run to make it 2-1 in the sixth.
