The Packer baseball team stranded a total of 19 runners on base as they dropped both games of a doubleheader at Rochester Century by scores of 4-3 and 9-4 Saturday.

Austin (1-11 overall, 0-10 Big Nine) led the first game 3-0 after five innings, but the Panthers (5-4 overall, 5-4 Big Nine) drew two walks to start the bottom of the sixth and converted two groundouts into runs.

Century tied the game when Austin outfielder Adam May lost his balance and had a fly ball land on his chest. He almost made the catch, but Century scored on the error.

After Brady Klingfus missed a home run when his deep blast went foul in the top of the seventh, Century scored on an overthrow back to the pitcher with two outs to win it in the bottom of the seventh. Century’s runner fell down running home, but the Packers threw it away again to let the winning run score.

“It was just a crazy turn of events,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “We led the whole game and then we find a way to give up the lead.”

Austin led the first game 3-0, but Century scored three in the third to take a 5-3 lead.
