Born “Ann Linear Brown” she is the oldest of four daughters of Frank and Astrid Brown. She attended K-12 classes locally and graduated valedictorian from Austin High School. She migrated west and now lives on Whidbey Island near Seattle.

Wild places she knows well.

“I feel lucky to have grown up in Austin in the 50’s,” said Linear “winter or summer I spent as much time outdoors as possible exploring local woodlots, hills, and prairies. It was here in the great heartland of our country that my love for the natural world began.”

Linear is a writer and educator. Whether she’s guiding people on a wilderness quest or presenting a workshop to business leaders, she strives to embody the stewardship of wild things, which has characterized her life and work.
