Family medicine physician and Minnesota healthcare executive Dr. Timothy Johnson has been selected to be the president and chief executive officer at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare.

Johnson comes to Franciscan Skemp from Austin Medical Center, part of Mayo Health System, where he has been a member of the medical staff since 1988 and served 14 years as chief executive officer and board chair.

Johnson succeeds current Franciscan Skemp CEO Dr. Robert Nesse, who in March 2010 was named CEO of Mayo Health System.

Johnson has also been a part of Mayo Health System leadership through his service on the Mayo Health System Board, Finance Committee and the ASYST (Electronic Medical Record) Design Council.

His leadership experience with a system similar in structure, mission and values to Franciscan Skemp will make for a good transition and an exciting future,” said Nesse.

Johnson’s clinical background includes a medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completion of a residency in Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic. In December he will have completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine from the University of Arizona. Since 2003 Johnson has been on the medical staff of the Austin Medical Center Pain Clinic focusing on low back pain, musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain. Upon joining the Austin Medical Center in 1988 he practiced in Family Medicine and the Emergency Department. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University and is a registered Physical Therapist, having trained at the Mayo Clinic School of Physical Therapy.

Johnson will transition out of his current role at Austin Medical Center and into his responsibilities at Franciscan Skemp by mid-June.
