3 Riverland softball players honored
The Riverland softball team had three players receive all-state honors recently.
Laura Meyer, a sophomore from Minneapolis and Autumn Jurgensen, a freshman from Austin, were selected to the MCAC first team All-State and Holly Waltz, a sophomore from Austin, was honorable mention.
Jurgensen, a pitcher, went 19-2 overall on the season with an ERA of 1.842. She struck out 74 in 133 innings, while allowing 108 hits and 16 walks.
Meyer, a catcher, led the Blue Devils with a .541 batting average and a .570 on-base percentage. She tallied two doubles, three triples, 21 RBIs and 45 runs, while going 16-for-17 on steals.
Waltz, a second baseman, had a batting average of .461 and an on base percentage of .493. She had 1 double, 9 RBIs and 39 runs, while going 27-for-27 on stolen bases.
RCC, which is 31-10 overall and ranked No. 5 in Division III, opens region tournament play against Rochester Friday at noon in RCC. The second game will be played at 2 p.m. and if a third game is needed, it will be played Saturday at noon at RCC.
