They win if different ways, but they keep on winning.

The Riverland Community College baseball team scored two more victories Saturday at home, topping Hibbing in a blowout 14-1 and outlasting Central Lakes in a 7-6 thriller.

The Blue Devils are now 14-2 overall and ranked No. 9 in the nation.

“We’re playing pretty well,” Riverland head coach Scott Koenigs said. “There are times we play very well, and there are other times we play average.”

Against Hibbing, Kyle Young went two for two with a home run, and Brian Voigt went two for three with two home runs as the Blue Devils overpowered their opponent.

Brad Winkelman scored the win for Riverland on the mound, pitching five innings with two strikeouts. The Blue Devils offense backed him up by scoring 14 runs in the first four innings.

“They were getting a little thin in pitching,” Koenigs said. “We just got the timing down on some of their pitchers who didn’t throw real hard.”

In the second game, Dustin Fritz singled to right center with two outs for the game-winning RBI to give Riverland the 7-6 victory.

Voigt lead the inning off with a double and scored the winning run.

“We’re swinging the bats well right now,” Koenigs said.

Riverland next plays at Carleton Thursday.
