The Austin softball team won its first game of the season with a 4-2 victory at Faribault Thursday.

The Packers (1-0 overall, 1-0 Big Nine) rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead when Robin Arjes knocked in two runs with a double and Brandi Ruroden knocked in Arjes with a single.

The Falcons (0-1 overall, 0-1 Big Nine) scored two in the bottom of the sixth and had the bases loaded, but Austin sophomore pitcher Marie Clennon held them in check.

“Marie came through and hit her spots and we had some tough defensive plays that shut them down,” Austin head coach Tina Strauss said. “I’m extremley pleased with this win and every single player chipped in one way or another.”

Arjes finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Clennon, Ruroden, Sara Sundberg, Rachel Donovan and Sara Alms each had singles.

Clennon pitched seven innings, while allowing six hits, five walks, and two runs (one earned), while striking out four.
