Louis Florin Schuster

Louis Florin “Shorty” Schuster, 93, of Austin died at Austin Medical Center Wednesday afternoon, April 7, 2010. 
He was born Aug. 10, 1916 to Frank and Theresa (Ochoa) Schuster in Madison Lake, Minn. He grew up near Marysburg where he was baptized and attended school. He farmed with his father in Minnesota and Iowa. After attending mechanics school in Detroit, Mich., Louis was hired to work at Interstate Implement in Austin. He was employed by Firestone in 1939. On Oct. 8, 1939 Louis married Sylvia Prestegaard at Deer Creek Lutheran Church. They made their home in Austin where they were charter members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Louis served as a deacon; member of Brotherhood and Sixty Plus; and for 49 years as an usher. He also enjoyed fishing. He retired from Firestone in 1981 after 41 years and five months as a mechanic. He moved to St. Mark’s Assisted Living in October, 2009.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Schuster of Austin; three daughers, Karen (Larry) Wilson of Austin, Darlene Falconer (Robert Rickle) of Littleton, Colo., Judy (Harry) Reshetar of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Michael (Deb) Schuster of Austin; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (David) Webb of Douglas, Ariz., Marie Teresa Schuster of Douglas, Ariz.; one brother, John Schuster of Sun City, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Ethel (Eldon) Nordland of Austin. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marilyn; three brothers, Mike, Charlie and Frank; one sister, Louise Wendland; and his stepmother, Maria Schuster.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Austin. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery, Austin. 
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin and to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
