Kathleen Welken

Kathleen F. Welken, 89, of Austin, passed away at her home on Monday, April 5, 2010.
Kathleen was born May 18, 1920 in Austin to Roy and Mary Bumgarner. She was educated in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1938. She subsequently attended the College of St. Catherine and graduated as an R.N. from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Rochester, Minn. Kathleen took additional course work at the University of Chicago and later worked as a nurse in the Hormel Medical Dept. during World War II.
Kathleen was married to Kenneth Welken in 1943 in Lakeland, Fla. She was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin. She volunteered for many church and school related activities and was a caring friend and neighbor.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; sons, Craig (Nancy) of Plymouth, Minn., Mark (Debbie) of Bloomington, Minn.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth Sheedy.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church and also at a luncheon following the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to St. Augustine Catholic Church or charity of donor’s choice.
