Jack Leroy Petersen, 72, of Albert Lea died suddenly, Thursday, April 8, 2010.
Jack was born Nov. 27, 1937 in Los Angelos, Calif. to Wesley and Irma (Giles) Petersen. He attended Austin Public Schools. Has lived in Rochester, Minn. and Albert Lea. Jack married Sandra Thompson on Oct. 17, 1954. While in Rochester he worked for Fire and Safety as a Fireman and a EMT. When he moved to Albert Lea, Jack ran the Albert Lea Fire and Safety Store. He also worked for Enders Tool Company and Wilson’s. After his retirement, Jack mowed lawns at the Country Club. Jack was a member of the Eagles; Moose, where he helped cooked suppers on Friday nights; and volunteered at St. John’s.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, sports and just being in the outdoors. Jack especially enjoyed spending time at the trailer on Leech Lake.
Jack is survived by his son, Rick Petersen and his wife Sheila of Glenville, Minn; sister, Marie Turner of Austin; special friend, Trudy Donahue and Tavis of Albert Lea, Minn.; grandchildren, Jillann Luoma and husband Lance, April Petersen and husband Ansil Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Loryssa, Kylee; stepchildren, Ashley and Travis; step-great-grandchildren, Selena and Savanna; several nieces and nephews.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Irma Petersen; wife, Sandra.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home Chapel, Albert Lea, with the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and with his family one hour before service at St. John’s.
