Darrell Dean Rosenthal, 71, of Austin, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at his home.
Darrell was born May 28, 1938 in Austin to Dudley and Atola “Donna” Rosenthal. On Jan. 5, 1963, he married Lorraine Cornelius at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.
Darrell owned and operated Rosenthal’s Flooring and Decorating in downtown Austin for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2003. He loved camping, bike riding, reading about American History, visiting museums, travel and most of all, spending time with his family. Darrell was an avid camper. He enjoyed planning trips for his entire family. He was always the one at the grill cooking for his family.  Darrell was a huge fan of classic country music and enjoyed going to concerts and collecting albums.  Darrell loved to take road trips with the sound of Hank Williams, George Jones and Ernest Tubb blaring through the car speakers. He was a member of the Austin Moose and Elks Clubs, and the Chamber of Commerce during the years he operated his business.
Darrell fought a courageous and often times miraculous 22-year battle with heart disease. He was completely devoted to his grandchildren. He never missed a school activity, volunteered to drive and chaperone field trips, and spent his retirement years taking them to and from their many activities.  Darrell is survived by his best friend and truly the love of his life, his wife, Lorraine. From the day they met they were rarely apart and Darrell wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Rosenthal of Austin; children, David Rosenthal of Austin, Thomas Rosenthal of Austin, Tina Marie (William) Monosmith of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosenthal, Isaac Rosenthal, Joseph Morse, Emily Rosenthal; sisters, Bonnie (Frank) Karnes of Austin, Marlene (Gene) Seavey of Austin; aunt, Gladys Besco of Austin; brothers-in-law, LeMoyne Cornelius of Albert Lea, Dale (Barbara) Cornelius of Denver, Colo.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dudley Rosenthal, and his mother, Atola “Donna” Rosenthal.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery near Oakland.
Darrell will be carried into eternal rest by his children and grandchildren as casket bearers.
