Verda Pater

Verda Minnie Pater, 91, formerly of Rural Dexter, Minn. died Monday morning, March 1, 2010 at the Our House Senior Living facility in Austin, where she had resided since 2005.
She was born July 27, 1918 in Matlock, Iowa to John Heimensen and Jennie (Heikens) Heimensen. She attended rural schools in the Matlock area through the eighth grade and was united in marriage to Arthur “Art” Pater on Aug. 19, 1936 at the church parsonage in Matlock. In 1945 they moved to the Dexter, MN area where they farmed until Arts’ retirement. Verda was a homemaker and enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren, crocheting, raising a meticulous garden and making cookies. She always kept a spotless home and made the best ham gravy. Verda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dexter and a member of the church circle. She was also a member of the Monitor Neighbors.
She is survived by two children, Kae Pater of Surprise, Ariz. and Bob Pater and friend Rhonda Helfritz of Dexter; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2005; a daughter, Judy Koopal; three grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Burial will take place in the Dexter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service at the church.
