The Blue Devils ran out of pitching in a 12-5 loss to the Ontario Blue Jays in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Wednesday.

Riverland started their No. 7 starter Drew Madsen, who lasted just over four innings before being pulled with the Blue Devils trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning. RCC’s reserve pitchers gave up six more runs before getting out of the jam.

“It was just one of those days where we were throwing guys out there to see what they could do a the college level,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “Madsen did a pretty good job of keeping us in it and he earned his place as a reliever for us.”

RCC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Ontario scored four unearned runs to take the lead in the third after RCC made an errant throw with two outs.

“It seems like every time we make an error, it kills us,” Koenigs said.

RCC rallied back to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

On Thursday, the Blue Devils will get back to the top of their pitching order as Brian Voigt and Kyal Williams will take the mound in a doubleheader. RCC will play its last game in Flordia on Friday.
