Phyllis Minnie Root, 82, of Austin died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, Minn. 
Phyllis was born on Nov. 12, 1927 in Preston, Minn. to Earl and Meta (Westphal) Nash.  She graduated from Wykoff High School. In 1946, Phyllis married Maynard Root in Spring Valley. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed making lefse in the winter. She loved to travel, and maintained a large garden. Phyllis was a very loving mother and loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jamie; brothers, Clarence and Donald; sisters, Dolories Thiemann and Frances Tammel.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Maynard Root, Austin; children, Dennis (Judy) Root, Stockton, Minn., Diane (James) Rogne, Austin, Janelle (Steve) Solberg, Austin, Timothy (Linda) Root, Creston, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Harvey (Marilyn) Nash, Stewartville, Minn., LaDonna Nash, Wykoff, Minn.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Florene (Floyd) Whipple, Rochester, Minn., Gloria Engle, Rochester, Minn.; nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.
