Pacelli set to induct eight into Hall of Fame

Pacelli High School will induct eight of its former standout athletes, coaches and alumni into its Hall of Fame during its annual induction ceremony Friday, June 18 at St. Edward’s Community Center at after the Pacelli golf day.

Dinner will be served at around 5:30 p.m. and the Pacelli Athletic Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Induction will take place shortly after.

Those being enshrined will include: Gary Erlandson, Tom Ball, Joe Leif, Scott Becker, Dean “Ted” Sherman, Leroy Koll, Dave Crandall (distinguished alumni), and Richard Revord (distinguished alumni).

Gary Erlandson

Erlandson taught for 44 years at Pacelli High School and was head coach of the 1992 state champion boys basketball team.

He also served as an assistant football coach, assistant girls basketball coach, and is a long-time Lions Booster Club Member.

Tom Ball

The 1966 graduate was a member of the Pacelli state champion boys basketball team of 1965 and he was on the consolation champion basketball team in 1966.

He made the all-tournament basketball team, played four years of football, made the all-state football team, and played strong safety at South Dakota State University.

Ball earned an M.A. in Education at SDSU.

Joe Leif

The 1974 graduate was a state wrestling champion in 1974 and he was state runner-up two times. He finished with 88 career wins.

Leif played baseball for four years at Pacelli and was on a team that went to state.

He was a three-year wrestling letter winner at the University of Minnesota and he was fifth in the Big Ten in 1978. Leif eventually wrestled for the undefeated U.S. National Team.

Scott Becker

The 1973 graduate made the all-state football team and had the longest run in MSHSL history when he scampered for 99 yards against De LaSalle.

He was a three-year starter at baseball for Pacelli and played on two state qualifying teams.

Becker played on the 1976 St. John’s National Championship football team and he earned an M.A. at the University of Minnesota, before attending the JD William Mitchell College of Law.

He became a Certified Financial Analyst.

Dean “Ted” Sherman

The 1952 grad played four years of football, was a team captain, MVP and made the All-State team.

He also participated in track for four years and baseball for two years, while serving as class president and all-school president.

Sherman is now deceased.

Leroy Kroll

Kroll taught at Pacelli for 33 years (1962-1995).

He coached the boys basketball team for 19 years and amassed a record of 280-161, while leading Pacelli to five district championships, two region runner-ups, five region championships, and three third place finishes at state.

Kroll was varsity baseball coach for three years, where the team had one state championship, one conference title, and one section runner-up.

He coached golf for three years and had one region title.

DISTINGUISHED GRADUATES

Richard Revord

The 1933 graduate attended Creighton University, passed the CPA test shortly after college, and became he partner of Hallin, Lufi and Revord CPAs in Minneapolis.

He became a member of the American Institute of CPAs and a member of the Minnesota Society of CPAs.

Dave Crandall

Crandall, who graduated from Pacelli in 1963, graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1967 and earned a B.A. degree in Accounting and Economics.

In 1970, he became a partner in Bolby, Anfisson, Crandall and Hyate, CPAs, and in 1998 he merged with Larson, Allan, LLP.

He is married to Marty Schottler of Austin and has two children and three grandchildren.
