Martin Kvam

Martin S. Kvam, 87, of Austin, died peacefully Saturday morning, March 27, 2010 at Austin Medical Center.
He was born on June 26, 1922 to Severt and Selma (Gustavson) Kvam in Northwood, Iowa. Martin grew up in the Austin area and worked in the C. C. Camps (Civilian Corp.) in Lanesboro. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Campaign. After his military discharge in 1946, he returned to Austin and worked at Hormel Foods for more than 44 years. Martin was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was a past member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and long walks, where he observed various wildlife.
Survivors include five children, Robert (Rosemary) Kvam of Lyle, Bruce Kvam of Austin, Melvin (Diane) Kvam of Austin, Dale Kvam of Austin and daughter, Marie Kvam of Indianola, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is one hour before the service. Military rites by American Legion Post # 91. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials preferred to donor’s choice.
