Enid Patterson

Enid Patterson, 91, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Enid Clarice Patterson, the daughter of Oscar and Rena (Nelson) Sampson, was born on the family farm near Lyle, Minn. on Feb. 16, 1919. She was baptized and confirmed at Six Mile Grove Church where she was a lifelong member and an active volunteer. Enid was united in marriage to Donald Patterson on March 20, 1941 at the parsonage in Lyle. They farmed near Toeterville, Iowa where they raised their three children: a daughter, Shirley Mae, and two sons, David and Duane.
Enid loved to sew and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. She also spent many happy hours quilting with the ladies at Six Mile Grove Church. Enid’s other interests were needlework and trying new recipes; and she was an avid reader. After retiring from the farm, she and Don were able to travel extensively, visiting family across the country.
Enid is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Don; son, David (Betty) of Apple Valley, Calif.; son, Duane of St. Ansgar; dear friend and caretaker, Linda Currens of St. Ansgar; grandchildren, Scott Patterson (and special friend Jodie Colwell) and Scott’s children, Corey and Megan of Apple Valley, Calif., Jeff Patterson (Jillean) and children Zyzick, Killian and Seth Patterson, Breanna, Shyanna, Adreanna and Bryson Urick of Apple Valley, Calif., Darin Patterson (Kristy) and children Keylee, Wyatt and Rowan of Hesperia, Calif., Dawn Ratashak (Josh) and children Colby and Xander of Springfield, Ore; sisters, Millie (Keith) Westling of Osage and Marilyn (Dean) Rockafellow of St. Ansgar; brother,  Russell (Gladys) Sampson of St. Ansgar; sisters-in-law, Neva Nelson of St. Ansgar, Helen Debner of Marble Rock, Lois (Walt) Benesh of Austin, Ruth Patterson of Osage and Mildred Patterson of Osage; brother-in-law, John (Fran) Patterson of St. Ansgar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley Mae Patterson; great-grandson, Trenton Patterson; sister and brother-in-law, Cleo and Kenneth Weness; nephews, Rick Nelson and John Nelson; brothers-in-law, Max Patterson, Darrell Patterson, Otto Nelson and Clarence Debner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 19 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, rural Lyle, Minn., with Pastor Lydia Mittag officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 18 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
