Two Mower County roads will become a little safer this year, as the two warning signals will be installed at railroad crossings.

The Mower County Board of Commissioners approved the installation of two new railroad crossing signals at roads crossing the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad.

The county will only have to pay for 10 percent of the project because the projects are eligible for the 90-10 federal grant.

One set of warning signals will be installed at 540th Avenue, a north to south road west of Old Mill Restaurant. The total cost of the project is $159,623, with the county paying $15,962.

Warning lights will also be installed on County Highway 27 west of Target where the road curves north and connects briefly with 515th Avenue. The project will cost about $161,545 with the county paying about $16,154.
