Selma Wiedeman

Selma (Sally) Wiedeman, 90, a longtime resident of the Austin area and recently of the Adams Health Care Center, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.
Sally was born May 21, 1919 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Maude and Sam Johnson. Her family later moved to Illinois. She later moved to Minnesota where she married Leland Wiedeman. They farmed in the Elkton and Grand Meadow area during their marriage and she also worked at Hormel from 1944 until 1977, when she retired.
Sally loved being with her family and preparing much food for them. She loved all her grandchildren and made the saying, “If Mom says no, ask Grandma,” so true. She had a great humor and always had something nice to say about people she had came into contact with. Sally had a great love for the mountains, polka music, dancing and family. Sally enjoyed watching Gaither Gospel program and Golden Girls.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Virgil) Sorenson, her son, Leland (Butch) Wiedeman, and daughter, Peggy (Roger) Winters; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Wiedeman; and a sister-in-law, Madelyn Wiedeman.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Leland Wiedeman; three step-sons, Donald, Robert and Duane; a granddaughter, Cathy Jo; and a great-grandson, Ben Sorenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Broberg officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday and also one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Tuesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Casket Bearers will be LeAnn Steffel, Rick Wiedeman, Gary Wiedeman, Brook Wiedeman, Kevin Sorenson and Matt Katusky. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Willie King and Mark Horning.
