Lila Long

Lila Elizabeth Long, 98, of Blooming Prairie, died at Prairie Manor Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.  She was born Feb. 5, 1912 to Joel and Mary (Mathias) Bailey in Hubbard, Iowa. She grew up in Iowa and graduated from Marshalltown High School. She married Harold Long on Dec. 11, 1931 in Lancaster, Mo. In 1932, shortly after getting married, Lila and Harold moved to Blooming Prairie, making their home on a farm in Newry Township where they raised two children and remained their entire married life. Lila loved to have fun and even rode bikes and motorcycles. She was a good cook; nobody ever left her house hungry. 
Harold passed away in 1993. Lila continued quilting with the church ladies and finally moved to Prairie Manor in 2007.
Survivors include one son, Robert “Bob” (Norma) Long of Blooming Prairie; one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Swenson of Faribault; eight grandchildren, Debbie (Bob) Farr, Cindy (Bob) Tyson, Rick (Mary) Long, Lisa (Rick) Hocking, Thomas Swenson, Brenda Swenson, Beth (Brian) DeMers and Timothy Swenson; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Burr of Blooming Prairie; brothers-in-law, Sam Worrell and Richard Frundle; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva with Pastor Carrie McElfresh officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Geneva Cemetery. 
The family prefers memorials to Community Lutheran Church in Geneva.
