Donald Gordon Miller, 91, of Austin, died Sunday morning, Jan. 31, 2010, at the Veterans Home in Minneapolis. 
He was born Sept. 7, 1918 to John and Jean (Pigott) Miller in Minneapolis, where he graduated from Marshall High School and attended the University of Minnesota for two years before enlisting in the Army in March of 1942. Serving in World War II as a Second Lieutenant, he received an honorable discharge in September of 1944. He attended Dunwoody Institute for Broadcasting and in 1949, went to work in New Ulm for KNUJ radio, the Polka Station of the Nation. He spoke German fluently and did several shows in German. He was instrumental in the promotion that led to the glory years of old-time bands. He later moved to LaCrosse, Wis. to work at Channel 8 TV, then Waterloo, Iowa and KAUS radio in Austin. He was a radio and television anchorman for more than 40 years. An avid reader, Don enjoyed classical music, opera and talking with his friends.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation is one hour before the service. Interment is at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or Austin Public Library.
