Christy (Dale Christian) Hansen, 79, quietly and gently passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Feb. 16, 2010, right before 11:00 a.m. Bernice, his beloved wife, was right by his side, as she’s been for nearly 50 years.
Christy was born to Gladys (Hansen) and Christian Hansen on July 2, 1930 in St. Louis Park, Minn. where he graduated from high school in 1948. In 1952, he graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. He served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict in the Armed Forces Radio. After returning to the States he attended Brown Institute and subsequently became the news anchor for KAUS TV, KAUS Radio, and news director at KQAQ Radio. He married Bernice (Liftin) Fuller on May 22, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin.
In 1962, he was Austin’s Community Ambassador to Iran and for one year presented 125 educational lectures and slide shows.
In 1967, he returned to college, earning his master’s in speech pathology from St. Cloud State. For 22 years, he was the speech clinician for District 500.
Christy piloted two community programs: “Youth Emergency Services” (Y.E.S.), a phone-in help line, assisting  youth and adults with immediate problems and concerns; and “Homework Helpline,” a second phone-in service created to assist students with lessons and manned by teachers.
A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Christy was a devout Christian and taught Sunday school for 20 years. In addition, he drove the WEE LEARNING van for St. Olaf Lutheran Church as well as the Sunday morning worship van for those who could no longer drive. As an avid volunteer he worked tirelessly for Holy Cross Lutheran School for more then 10 years, headed the Garden Pantry for 15 years and actively participated in the American Cancer Society and Mower County ARC, umpired softball and visited area nursing homes on a regular basis. He also belonged to the American Legion, the Elks and the Eagles. Christy understood and experienced the true joy of giving to others less fortunate than he. Tuesday morning prayer groups in both Austin, and the 17 winters spent in Green Valley, Ariz., were a tremendous joy to him.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling and watching sports of all types, but more importantly loved to make people laugh.
He authored three books: “Me and Mower, To His Glory”; “It Had To Be A Miracle”; and “Oh My God!”
He began his fourth book but God called him home prior to completion.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hansen of Austin; daughter, Carol (Kurt) Grow of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Randy Fuller of Gulfport, Miss.; sister, Marie (Robert) Anderson of Plymouth; niece, Paula Fricke of Minneapolis; great-nephew, Adam Fricke of Minnetonka and many friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Hedberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin with flag presentation by American Legion Post 91. Memorials are preferred to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Building Fund Capital Appeal.
