Blue Devil women top Ridgewater with just seven players

They had just seven active players, but the Riverland women’s basketball team got it done with a 78-68 win over Ridgewater (8-13 overall, 1-6 MCAC South) Monday in RCC gym.

The Blue Devils (10-10 overall, 2-4 MCAC South) used a 23-2 run to break a 44-44 tie in the second half and get the convincing win.

RCC hit 40 percent of its shots and hit 44 percent (4-for-9) of its three-point attempts.

“We attacked the basket and we took good shots,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said. “Everybody played well tonight.”

Mandy May, a sophomore guard from Randolph, had 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and seven assists and Krista Viehauser, a freshman forward from Austin, had 19 points and six blocks, while hitting all 10 of her free throws.

Mirana Swanson had five blocks for RCC.
