Beatrice Evelyn Kruger, 78, passed peacefully of natural causes at her home near Whalen, Minn. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010.
As a young woman, Evelyn, who was aptly nicknamed, “Honey,” spent her childhood in the Rose Creek and Austin area. Once married, Evelyn farmed near Blooming Prairie, Minn. with her husband, Elmer. Evelyn had many friends who enjoyed her boundless zest for life. She was an avid gardener, renown bread baker, feeder of countless wild birds, exquisite needle point artist, tireless community volunteer and political activist. She gave hours of service to the Whalen Stand Still Parade, the Democratic Party, the Whalen Lutheran Church, the Lanesboro Blood Mobile and Planned Parenthood. Evelyn was a dedicated caregiver to any member of her family who needed her at the drop of a hat, especially to her husband, Elmer, and her mother, Rose, toward the end of their lives. She enjoyed reading, the theater and music and traveling with her family. Before retiring to the Lanesboro area, she had a long and satisfying career as an office manager, and later owned and operated a small family business with her three sons and her husband in London, Minn.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her mother and father, Godfred and Rose Godfredson; her sister, Rosemary Smith.
She is survived by her brother, Peder Godfredson; her daughter, Margaret; her sons, David, Howard and Paul; and her grandchildren, Jennifer, Rose, Alex, Eli, Zachary, Rebecca, Sarah, David, Molly, Tony, Ryan and Julie. She also leaves her good friends, Charlotte Johnson and Dee Stoll, until they can catch up for coffee somewhere in the afterlife.
Services will be held Wednesday Morning, Feb. 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Whalen Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Knudson officiating. A reception and luncheon at the Whalen Hall will follow with the kind assistance of her dear friend Charlotte Johnson.
