March is Mod at the Austin Area Art Center.
The center opens a new exhibit, “March MODness,” featuring art by Jim Murphy, William Olson and Linda Draper in their Oak Park Mall gallery Wednesday.
A reception in their honor will be held Sunday, March 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. All purchases are tax-free the day of the reception, and refreshments will be served.
Featured artists will showcase photography, pencil, ink, watercolor and acrylic pieces among others.
Jim Murphy’s digital work is often inspired by mountains, rivers, streams and the change of seasons in Colorado. Born in Minnesota, he has also lived in California, Arizona and Colorado.
William Olson creates comic book characters from local landmarks, as well as detailed Sketches and watercolor paintings. Olson is an Austin area native who graduated from the Commercial Art and Technical Drawing program at South Central College in Mankato.
Linda Draper held a passion for art even before her first public exposure at age 5 when a butterfly she had drawn was shown on the children’s TV program “Kukla, Fran and Ollie.” Draper’s art includes photography, portraitures, and landscapes, primarily in acrylics, watercolors, and oil pastel. She also sketches, wood burns, and dabbles in sculpture.
“March MODness” runs through March 28. The Austin Area Art Center is open Wednesday through Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
