The Packer wrestling team had some big individual wins but it fell short on the team scoreboard 51-24 in Albert Lea Thursday in the last regular season dual for the Packers.
Albert Lea racked up seven pins, a major decision and had one forfeit win.
“No excuses to be made tonight, we were beaten by a better team,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “I felt that we lacked some of the fight we have had in recent matches. I obviously didn’t have our team ready for this dual. However, we will keep working to improve. We have a clear picture of what it is going to take to succeed in our section tournaments.”
Austin’s Mike Hirsch (30-1 overall) and Howie Underwood (24-5 overall) cruised with first period pins and Thomas Herrera extended his Big Nine record to 8-1 with a 4-2 decision in the heavyweight match.
With the loss, Austin (8-11 overall, 6-2 Big Nine) will settle for third place in the Big Nine.
