The 500 block of First Avenue Northwest will be closed for part of the day Wednesday after a broken water main leaked into the street.

Austin Utilities crews are working to fix the leak at the corner of First Avenue NW and Fourth Street NW. The 500 block of First Avenue NW could be open to traffic by around 4 p.m., said Todd Jorgenson, gas, water and engineering operations director.

The exact cause of the leak was unknown, but Jorgenson said such leaks can occur when the temperatures fluctuates.
