Christmas is gone, but the weather is still frightful, and it doesn’t look to let up until early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, Mower County continues to be in a wind chill advisory until 11 a.m. Tuesday, although the cold temperatures will stick around long after that.

Wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero are expected through mid morning today.

“We’re about 20 degrees below normal,” said Randy Breeser, data acquisition program manager for the NWS.

The high for Wednesday is expected to be 12 degrees, with a low of 2 before a high of 3 degrees Thursday and a low of 12 below zero, and a high of zero Friday and a low of 13 below.

Early next week, Breeser said temperatures will be warming up into the high teens.

The coldest temperature of all time in southeastern Minnesota, Breeser said, was 42 below zero on Jan. 7, 1887.

He added that four of the top 10 coldest temperatures of all time in this area happened in the two-year span of 1887 and 1888.
