Seven adults were charged with drug offenses Friday, following a house raid in Brownsdale earlier this week.

Overall, 10 people, including a juvenile female, were arrested when authorities searched 507 East Main St. at around 6:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Two individuals, 24-year-old Brand Ingalls and 25-year-old Kyle David Magyar, were already wanted on warrants, and have not yet been charged in Mower County.

A 17-year-old female who was arrested was sent to a juvenile detention center. Criminal complaints suggest she lived in the raided house.

The charges

Corey James Papka, 39, is listed as a resident of the home where arrests were made Wednesday.

Friday, Papka was charged with first degree drug sale conspiracy, a felony; second degree drug possession conspiracy, a felony; and storing methamphetamine paraphernalia in the presence of a child, a felony.

The first degree charge is reserved for possessing or conspiring to possess at least 10 grams of mixtures containing methamphetamine with the intent to sell it.

The second degree charge is reserved for possessing or conspiring to possess at least 6 grams of the mixtures.

Shane Rose, 33, is also listed as a resident of the same house. He is charged with first degree drug sale conspiracy, subsequent offense, a felony.

A subsequent offense suggests that not 10 years have past since serving a sentence for a previous felony-level controlled substance conviction.

Rose is also charged with felony second degree drug possession conspiracy, subsequent offense and felony storing methamphetamine paraphernalia in the presence of a child. Rose had previous drug convictions in 2004 and 2008, according to the criminal complaint.

Eric Anthony Portillo, 33, of Rochester, is charged with felony first degree drug sale conspiracy, subsequent offense.

He is also charged with felony second degree drugs possession conspiracy, subsequent offense.

Portillo’s criminal history shows a conviction for a first degree drug crime in 2005.

Savannah Rhodes, 20, of Stillwater, Corina Sanborn, 29, of Spring Valley and Christian LaCroix, 23, of Rochester are all charged with fifth degree drug possession, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia which is a petty misdemeanor.

William Wheeler, 22, of Waseca, is charged with felony fifth degree drug possession.

He has previous drug convictions from 2008 on his record.

The search

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said earlier this week that authorities had been monitoring the house for a number of months.

When officers from her department and the Southeast Minnesota Drug Taskforce entered the home, some of the residents were sleeping and others were awake, she said.

Portillo jumped through a closed window and was arrested while fleeing on foot, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

The sheriff has said no one else put up much resistance to arrest.

Scattered needles and a scale were found in the home as well as a small marijuana growing station, according to the complaint.

About 10.5 grams of methamphetamine were found in small plastic bags on the porch and “a large quantity” of the drug was found in an office space, according to the complaint.

Amazi said that there were signs that they were all using and selling meth, but there were no signs the drug was being manufactured in the home.

A lock box in the living room contained drug paraphernalia, $880 in cash and a crib sheet that appeared related to debts owed for drugs, according to the complaint.

The defendants would likely be shipped elsewhere for any type of long-term lockup.

Potential convictions facing Portillo and Rose carry 40 years each.

Other individual felony counts facing defendants are punishable by 5 to 30 years in prison and or $10,000 to $1 million in fines.

All seven defendants are scheduled for arraignment Jan. 28.
