Packer wrestlers top John Marshall

The Austin wrestling team shook off some rust to beat Rochester John Marshall 48-25 on the road Thursday.

The Packers (4-3 overall, 3-1 Big Nine) hadn’t wrestled in 26 days but they recorded six pins in the win.

However, it was the Packers who didn’t win who left a lasting impression on Austin head coach Bill Kinney. Lucas Akkerman lost a 6-3 decision to Tim Moore and Bryce Zahradnik was pinned by Alex Evan.

“Lucas Akkerman and Bryce Zahradnik probably turned in their best performances of the season albeit in losses,” Kinney said. “Dylan Diekmann also wrestled a very complete match this evening. If we can get one or two of those guys to get hot here in the second half, it would make us a much stronger dual team.”
