LETTER: Fire chief will be missed

What can I say about Austin Fire Chief Dan Wilson? I would like to say that he was a good friend of mine for the 26 years he has been in the fire service. He has always been good to me. I enjoyed spending time at the fire department and visiting Dan.

In my opinion we are losing a great leader in our fire department. One of the many things he accomplished was educating people on the use of smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Before Dan was a fire chief, he was a fire inspector. He always did a fine job on fire prevention week in October as well. Another thing Dan has done is encourage kids to read more books.

We should be thankful for having Dan in our fire department for so many years. I wish my friend Dan a happy retirement, and he will be missed by me.
