Lawrence Young

Lawrence E. “Larry” Young, 77, of Austin, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at his home.
Larry was born July 15, 1932 in New Hampton, Iowa to Elmer and Myrtle (Mensink) Young. He married Barbara J. Hallman and they were together for 51 years before her death on Sept. 19, 2001. On April 14, 2007 he married Juanita (Pieper) Gehring at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Larry worked at Sterling Bank, Austin Cab, as a Deputy Sheriff, and was a retired employee of Hormel Foods. He served during the Korean War and he loved his country. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed nature, loved his children and his grandchildren.  Larry drove the van for St. Olaf Church and also for the Veterans. He greatly enjoyed outings with his brother-in-law, Vince. Blessed be his memory.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Young, Austin; daughter, Cindy (Kent) Young Johnson, Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren, Carrie, Charly and Alex; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Cameron; sister, Marie Halvorson, Austin; three brothers-in-law.
In addition to his first wife, he is preceded in death by his son and his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating.  There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91, VFW Post #1216, and DAV Post #27.
The honorary casket bearer will be Charley Dibble. The casket bearers will be Vince Pieper, Lawrence Pieper, Chuck Dibble, Alex Lohn, Al Parker and Mike Jurgenson.
Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
