Hugh Kenney

Hugh Kenney, 95, of Owatonna, formerly of rural Ellendale, died Jan. 28, 2010 at Owatonna Commons.
Hugh was born on Aug. 8, 1914 the son of Andrew and Johanna (Kane) Kenney in Walcot Township, rural Rice County. He attended country school at District #12 and later attended Faribault High School. Hugh worked on a farm after high school. He was united in marriage to Vera Hunt on June 20, 1938 in Seaforth, Minn. This union brought four children. Vera preceded Hugh in Death in 1983. Hugh worked as a excavator and owned his own excavating business. Hugh worked well into his retirement years. He was united in marriage to Allas Cesafsky in 1987 and the couple made their home in rural Ellendale. Allas preceded Hugh in death 2002.
Hugh was a member of St. Joseph Church and his life interests included fishing, traveling, visiting with friends and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hugh is survived by his children, Janet (David) Motz of Junction City, Wis., Jim (Dorry) Kenney of Owatonna, Mary (Arlyn) Proksch of Thonton, Colo. and Kathleen (Dennis) Huffman of Austin; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Kenney of Wis.; and brother-in-law, John Hoban of Faribault.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, Minn. with the Rev. Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 S. Elm, Owatonna. There will be a 3:45 p.m. parish Rosary at the church on Sunday. The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday.
