Dean Twedt

Dean Richard Twedt, 85, of Austin, died at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.
He was born Sept. 3, 1924 to M.L. and Martina (Olson) Twedt in Woden Iowa. After graduating from Thompson High School in Thompson Iowa, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for four years. Upon his honorable discharge, Dean attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and earned a degree. He married Betty Codner and later divorced. He married Clara A. Sukow on Aug. 1, 1975 in Austin. They raised three children and were married more than 34 years. Dean worked at Hormel Foods for more than 32 years and was also a farmer.
A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Dean was a past board member of the SEM Beef Association and Southern Minnesota Irrigation Association. He also enjoyed farming, fishing, bowling and all spectator sports. Dean was also a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Twedt of Austin; daughter, Jackie (Jerry) Reuter of Austin; two sons, Tim Twedt of Illinois and Steven (Ann) Thompson of Lanesboro, Minn.; four grandchildren, Bradley, Scott and Stacy Reuter and Kelly Twedt; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elvina Hicks of Austin and Arlis Eiesland of Sioux Falls S.D.; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Military rites by American Legion Post #91.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
