Daniel Christiansen

Daniel Frederick Christiansen, 96, formerly of Austin, died at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester on Jan. 2, 2010. 
He was born April 23, 1913 to John and Carrie (Pederson) Christiansen in Rolfe, Iowa. He grew up in northern Iowa and moved to Albert Lea, Minn., where he married Eva C. Campbell on July 18, 1937. Daniel was employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in Austin until he was drafted into the Marines.  After his discharge, he returned to Hormel’s to work for more than 30 years. A big sports fan, Daniel especially liked the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed woodworking, small engine repair, spending time with his family and working on machinery with them.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (David) Johnson of LeSueur; one son, Philip (Jan) Christiansen of Oronoco; five grandchildren, James (Melissa) Christiansen of Rosemount, Jenna (Greg) Umbaugh of Dodge Center, Josh Johnson of Minneapolis, Scott Johnson of LeSueur, Zach (Britt) Johnson of Reno, Nev.;two great-grandchildren, Alex and Audrey Christiansen; one brother, Amos Christiansen of Albert Lea; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his wife; seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating.  Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to donors’ choice.
