Dale Apold

Dale John Apold, 72, of Austin died Monday evening, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dale was born May 10, 1937 in Austin to Kenneth and Melvina Apold. He grew up in Austin and attended Queens Elementary and St. Augustine High School. Dale served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He then began his 41 year career with George A. Hormel Company.
In 1960, Dale married Suzanne Sollie and together they raised three children. He loved fishing and hunting, and his favorite pastime was golf. Dale also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dale loved life and was a kind and gentle man. His family was very important to him and he dearly loved them. May God bless him and hold him in the palm of His hand.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne, Austin; children, Brenda (Chris) Engen, Stevensville, Mich., Heidi Krivanek, Las Cruces, N.M., Brett (Robin) Apold, Cambridge, Wis.; five grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Engen, Callahan Krivanek, Hannah and Gabriela Apold; father, Kenneth Apold, Austin; twin sister, Deanna Arndt, Austin; brothers, Jim (Carole) Apold, Austin, Bill (Polly) Apold, Austin; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Melvina Apold; brother-in-law, Emil Arndt Jr.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m.  The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, AMC Hospice or St. Augustine Catholic Church.
