Arden Bernhard Wold, 90, of Blooming Prairie, died at Prairie Manor Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 12, 2010 after a one month stay.
He was born Oct. 13, 1919 to Ole K. and Caroline “Lena” (Hanson) Wold in Blooming Prairie, Minn. where he grew up and attended school. After graduation from high school, Arden attended the Minnesota School of Business. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps Nov. 20, 1942, serving on several bases in the USA, South Pacific and Japan during World War II with a rank of corporal. Upon his return on Nov. 21, 1945, he joined the Blooming Prairie VFW Post 878 and American Legion Post 52, both of which he belonged to for 65 years. He served as Quartermaster of the VFW, Post Commander of the American Legion and was Service Officer for both organizations for 15 years. When Arden returned from military duty, he began working for Lysne Construction in 1946 where he was office manager for 44 years, retiring in 1990.
Because of Arden’s gift of singing, he was in vocal groups in high school, the military and at First Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for 50 years. He was involved in many other leadership positions in the church throughout his lifetime. His deep Christian faith manifested itself in his actions and in his love for family and friends. He was active in Blooming Prairie Senior Citizens organizations, delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years and provided transportation for people as needed. Arden loved to play golf and bowl and spent many years pursing these sports to great success. Past president of Blooming Prairie Country Club, he was well respected in the community, receiving several awards for leadership including the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1997.
He and his mother were well known for their beautiful garden which Arden continued at Heather Haus. Arden will be deeply missed by his family who loved him dearly and whom he loved unconditionally.
