Fourth through eighth grade students competed in the National Geographic Bee yesterday at Banfield, Neveln, Sumner, Southgate and Ellis Middle School.
All students took a preliminary test, and the 30 students with the top scores at each school went on to compete in the bees Thursday.
The Banfield champion is Sam Bailey and the runner-up is Nora Curtis; Neveln champion is Hannah Perez and the runner-up is Isaac Kilgore; Southgate champion is Trenton Brown and the runner-up is Christina Hernandez; Sumner champion is Isaac Smith and the runner-up is Evan Horstmann; Ellis Middle School champion is Nate Brickman and the runner-up is Riley Forcelle.
The champion at each school will go on to take a written geography test. The tests will be sent to the National Geographic Bee organization for scoring. Students who score well have the opportunity to compete at the State Bee in April.
